FIND-IT, the ultimate file finding machine with 'preferrence' for complex full text retrival !

Any search for files on your disc(s), no matter if by name, size, date or any other criteria, will be performed fast, comfortably and reliably.
Find-it will find any file, anywhere on your disc or the entire network - with any criteria you give. Above all: it scans files for their content. You can search for multiple phrases in any desired combination using logical operators (and / or / not). Find-it will find contents in almost any file format, even when packed within a ZIP, CAB or mail attachements and even PDF. Find-it only has to pass on full text retrieval inside bitmaps (i.e. scanned documents) or mails which are stored in client databases.

Finding files by their content, at ligthning speed, without prior indexing! The tool will crawl through your directories or drives with high speed. If you have some hundret GB of data and look for any file created within the last month, containing a special combination of phrases, they will be found within less than a minute. If you are able to apply further astrictions (i.e: type of file) the scan may even be finished within seconds. Even if you really have to scan all files withount any astriction like date or type even on a mediocre computer Find-it will process one gigabyte of data per Minute.

Lists of found files are presented as virtual folder, looking similar to the Windows Explorer. Found files may be copied, moved, run, viewed, zipped and handled any way you want to handle them. Lists of found files can be stored for further use. Queries can be stored and repeated any you want. Lists of found files may be searched for other criteria, exported to html or plain text.... there is merely nothing you can't do.

The integrated viewer is showing the content of all files and highlights the words you were looking for. You may copy and paste citiations or even collect several citiations from different found files within a new document.

If desired, Find-it will run automatically in the background. The program can be 'remote-controlled' by other applications using a script language, predefined queries can be started repeatedly (if desired: hidden) creating lists of found files or even automatically copy or move them.

Sophisticated help will present you smart tooltips for any element of the user interface. This will help you to use the elaborate functions right from the start.

In addition Find-it is able to produce a 'pen drive installation' to be executed from any pen drive on almost any Computer.

Find-it was first developed 1993 for Windows 3.0 and has ben developed further since then. It was initially programmed for use of a group of german TV journalists because there was no software available to do the job. Find-it is distributed as shareware in German language since 1994. In Germany and other German speaking countries the program has a huge number of users, including governmental institutions, big companies and universities (Look at: References on the left).

      Find Any File is a program for Apple's macOS that lets you search for files on your disks.

      Contrary to Spotlight (or the search in Finder), it does not use a database but instead uses the file system driver's fast search operations, where available. This lets you search for file properties such as name, dates, size, kind etc., and even for plain text contents quite fast.
      Find Any File can find files that Spotlight doesn't, e.g. those inside bundles and packages and in inside folders that are usually excluded from Spotlight search. It can even search in other user's folders if you use FAF's unique root search mode.

      Find Any File doesn't replace Spotlight, but it complements it greatly:
      If you search for files by name, size, dates, kind and other directory properties, use FAF, because only then you can be sure that everything available is found.
      FAF can also find text content if it's uncompressed, as in plain text files and even most binary files. And with the new option to include Spotlight results, it can even find text in compressed PDF, Word and Excel documents if they were indexed by Spotlight.
      FAF can not find metadata stored in files, though, such as image sizes, EXIF data and GPS coordinates. If in doubt, see the manual or simply try out FAF for free, please.

      Features:

      Find Any File has a few gems that other search tools do not offer:

      1. Better results: It offers an alternative hierarchical view for the found items. You can switch to it with cmd+2 or click on the right little icon at the top of the results window.
      Note that the search above revealed hundreds of hits. If you'd look at that many results in a flat list, it would be hard to browse. With this new hierarchical view, however, you can directly look for the results in the folders that interest you.

      2. Image Preview: If you're looking for pictures, the image preview browser is helpful as well (new in version 1.9):
      3. Find everything on your disk: If you hold the Option key (alt ?) down in the Find window, the Find button turns into Find All. If you click on it then, you are asked for an administrator password - and then Find Any File will restart in root mode, being able to find really any file on your Mac's volumes, including files in other users' home directories (something that Spotlight won't do).
      Note that this will only work on local disks, not on network mounts, though.
      4. You can save your entered searches to files (they'll have the extension ".faf"). You can then double click them in the Finder to have them start the search immediately, or use the saved search as a preset.
